Chloe had woken up at her usual time today, an hour before sunrise. Toura and Ryan hadn’t shown up to their house that night, and Chloe regretted not taking their bed. She opened her eyes, diffused sunlight drifting through the bedroom door into the living room. She squirmed. The couch had eaten her and she wasn’t sure if she would be able to escape it.
Chloe poured boiling water into a cup half full of syrups. She didn’t mind drinking first thing in the morning. She foraged for tea leaves, but only found bags. Reluctantly, she brewed two bags and left with her cup. She had gotten it when Rickur had taken her to an inn last night. The place was fairly high class, and Chloe felt at home for the first time. It was a feeling she was not comfortable with.
She headed for Night Revenge. If they were still there, the police were just going to have deal with her snooping around.
Night Revenge looked dead, the life sucked out of it. I guess losing a floor and one hundred percent of your patrons can do that to you, Chloe thought.
There were few police and guards posted there. They didn’t let Chloe past, stating that the crime scene was not to be tampered with. Chloe crossed her arms and headed into an alley, finishing her drink before it got cold. It scalded her throat, but she enjoyed the heat in the cold morning. Chloe scaled the building that stood adjacent to Night Revenge. It was two stories, a metal monster of a structure. Basically, not a challenge. Chloe looked down to the Night Rave building. The insulated roof of the first floor lay bare to the sky. It seemed that the even the flooring of the second storey was taken.
Chloe sat, legs swaying, studying the building below. She imagined what she would do if she had taken it herself. She would probably make it her new home and throw parties. She watched as Rickur came up the stairs, seeing the roof, destroyed and dismantled. He looked for clues, but obviously they were all taken with the rest of the building. After a few minutes he looked up. Clouds frosted the grey sky. His breath floated white into the atmosphere. He scanned the skyline, and spotted Chloe on the neighbouring building. She waved at him with a cheery expression. He just looked back at her, confused.
“Hey, you shouldn’t be there!” He called out.
Chloe just smiled. Rickur was visibly frustrated and he beckoned her down. Chloe pushed off, falling almost eight cubits to the dismembered rooftop below.
“I’m… not worried about where I should or shouldn’t be. I go where I please.” Chloe sneered, copying her older sister’s attitude.
Rickur was already frustrated, he had found no leads in the club, and the roof had even less for him. Now, this woman was grinding on his nerves. At least she was nice to look at, he thought reluctantly.
“Listen, this is police business. Not even the guards are allowed in without clearance.”
“Well, good knight, what about royalty?”
“What?” Rickur looked at her, confused. “What about royalty?”
Chloe gave him an imploring look. He studied her expression for a few moments, and then looked down her neck at her contoured collar. Chloe wore the only true proof of royal bloodline;a crown. She wore the golden band around her neck, and she never took it off.
“Err… well, even so, you shouldn’t be here. In fact, if you really are some distant member of the royal family, than you really should leave town right away.”
Chloe was perplexed by his answer, “What? Leave town? I just got here.”
Rickur didn’t say anything. He just shook his head. This isn’t going to be a good place for royalty to be, not after this week, He thought to himself.
“Just… lay low until the week is over. You’ll see what I mean by then.”
And here it is! Couple days late, but here it is! Hope you like the first scene of chapter two. This goes a lot deeper than you may think…
